What is a plug valve

The plug valve is a plunger-shaped closing member or rotary valve, which can be opened or closed by rotating 90 degrees, so that the passage port on the valve plug is connected or separated from the passage port on the valve body.
Its valve plug shape can be cylindrical or conical. In cylindrical plugs, the passages are generally rectangular; in cone plugs, the passages are trapezoidal. These shapes make the construction of the plug valve lighter. It is best suited for cutting and joining media and diverting, but can sometimes be used for throttling, depending on performance and erosion resistance of the sealing surfaces.
working principle:
A valve having a plug body having a through hole as an opening and closing member. The valve plug rotates with the valve stem to realize the opening and closing action. A plug valve without a small package is also called a "cock". The plug body of the plug valve is mostly a cone (also a cylinder), which cooperates with the conical hole surface of the valve body to form a sealing pair. The plug valve is the earliest valve used, with a simple structure, rapid opening and closing, and low fluid resistance. Ordinary plug valve is the direct contact seal between the finished metal plug body and the valve body, so the sealing performance is poor, the opening and closing force is large, and it is easy to wear. Usually only used for low pressure (not higher than 1mpa) and small diameter (less than 100mm) occasions.
Advantage:
1. The plug valve is used for frequent operation, opening and closing quickly and easily.
2. The fluid resistance of the plug valve is small.
3. The plug valve is simple in structure, relatively small in size, light in weight and easy to maintain.
4. Good sealing performance.
5. It is not limited by the installation direction, and the flow direction of the medium can be arbitrary.
6. No vibration and low noise.
